For the game animation assignment, I have been really challenged and have put a lot of effort into it. I have started with the easiest part for me: the animation. I did not know what ROM animation was before, so I had to Google it. After I made the ROM animation, I chose a character and animation from Mixamo and went to Unreal Engine. I made the IK rigs for both characters and, in them, assigned the goals, set transformations, and chains. This was not the hard part.
The hard part began when I started retargeting the animation from one character to another. Firstly, I realized that brute is the size of an ant, so I had to reimport him with the scale multiplied by 10. After that, he was at normal scale and started moving a little better, but I still had mesh problems
Nothing was working for me to fix this issue. After some time, I asked Nitin for help, and we came to the conclusion that I needed to remake the IK rig of brute. It helped a little, but I kept going.
After some time, I tried to change the skin weights, and it was the actual thing that worked to fix the mesh. Also, apparently, some joints had rotation in the Maya file, and it might have been another reason why it kept breaking.
After fixing the skin weights, it looked much better than it looked from the start. It still does not 100% match the animation from Maya, but I learned a lot from this, and next time it should give me fewer issues.
